OUTDOOR LEAD GUIDE - Spark (ages ~4-7)

Are you a nature expert eager to share your passion with children?

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Outdoor Guide to lead our Spark learners (ages ~4-7). The ideal candidate will have a deep love for nature, exceptional knowledge of outdoor activities, and the ability to inspire and engage young children in a safe and educational outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities:

lead group of learners (~ages 4-7) in exploring the outdoors, fostering curiosity and a love for nature
communicate with families on program and learning updates
use storytelling, games, and hands-on activities to guide children in exploring and learning about the natural world
develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate outdoor activities and educational programs
plan nature walks, wildlife observation, plant identification, and basic outdoor survival skills
plan each day to include a combination of gratitude, challenges to learn new skills, fun outdoor games, etc.
demonstrate a love of the outdoors and a respect for nature
encourage teamwork, cooperation, and respect for nature among the children
ensure the safety and well-being of all children and implement safety protocols (i.e. fire and knife safety, among other things)
maintain a high level of awareness and supervision
assist in the preparation and cleanup of program sites
work with the rest of the Acton Guides and Head of School, collaborate as necessary, and embrace being part of the team

Pay:  $175-$215 per day depending on level of expertise, no additional benefits are provided for this position (medical insurance must be acquired independently).  

Days/Hours:  This position is a 1 day per week position, Wednesdays only. Hours are approximately 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m (learners are there from 9am to 3pm) throughout the school year. 

Qualifications: 

proven experience as an outdoor expert, guide, or educator
knowledge of nature, wildlife, and environmental education
ability to engage and inspire young children
certified, or willingness to become certified, in First Aid and CPR as well as Wilderness First Aid; additional safety or other outdoor/wilderness certifications are a plus
patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
excellent communication and interpersonal skills
a deep curiosity about life and love of lifelong learning
innovative and entrepreneurial spirit
willingness to allow students to experience and learn from failure
commitment to religious, political, and economic freedoms
proven excellence in guiding children (in or out of a school environment); alternative educational training/experience helpful (nature or project-based, coaching, homeschooling, learner-driven, Montessori, etc.)
ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (rain, snow, cold)Background check required.

This is a position for an independent learner who can take direction, but also work with little direct guidance; someone who likes to collaborate, experiment, evaluate and continually improve; someone who has a deep respect for all children, believing that each human has a genius within; and someone who is a flexible problem-solver.
