"People often say that motivation doesn't last.
Well, neither does bathing.
That's why we recommend it daily."

- Zig Ziglar

Mike and I believe that you have to 'put the good stuff in, if you want to get the good stuff out.' We read books, listen to podcasts, and go to conferences to try to learn from those who are smarter than we are or who are simply ahead of us on the journey. You have to 'get it to give it' and you have to be intentional about what you put in and what/who you surround yourself with.

So on that note, Mike and I just got back from a conference in San Diego that we hadn’t been back to in 13 years and it was so great! I was just looking over some notes so thought I would share some motivation for anyone interested.

I’m generally a hard sell on motivational type speakers because I think so many are either cheesy or don’t walk the walk so I lose respect, but I’ve always been impressed with Brian Buffini (and his wife Beverly) {backstory at the bottom in case you’re interested}.

At the conference he talked about the concept of acting now, seizing the day. We need to act even when we don't feel like it, when it's not fun or pretty, when it's hard. In teaching our kids, this is why we are teaching them good habits and character...for action, to do, to make a difference in the world because as Mahatma Ghandi says, “All good thoughts and ideas mean nothing without action.”

In Dead Poets Society, Robin Williams says  “Carpe, carpe. Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.” Robin Williams inspires; we all need great inspiration to be extraordinary...and we have to seek that out.

"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."
- Thomas Edison

So I want to share with you some motivation that helps me. One of my favorite Buffini podcasts is an interview he did with Joetta Clark Diggs, who is amazing, not only because of what she has done on the Track, but the way she lives her life. She is so inspiring and her determination is incredible! After listening to the podcast check out how at 38 years old she makes her 4th Olympic team (with her sister and sister-in-law), amazing! Listen to the podcast first though 😉

"The first step - that first burst of energy - will take you around the bend."
- Joetta Clark Diggs

"Frustration is a sign of investment."
- Joetta Clark Diggs

"Failure is not the opposite of success, it's a part of it."
- Arianna Huffington

Buffini backstory...

Brian is an Irish immigrant who came to the U.S. with $92 in his pocket, shortly after he got into a motorcycle accident ad was $200,000 in debt. Through hard work and maintaining high standards and morals he became one of the top realtors in the country and now has the largest coaching and training company in the country. His wife, Beverly, was an Olympic volleyball player from the South (and Joetta Clark Diggs' roommate at the University of TN) who homeschooled their 6 children, the oldest two just going to college this year. Oh, and they are neighbors with Bill Gates...so you know, doing ok financially 😉 But that's not what impressed me, it's that they have done this with high integrity and gratitude. They walk the walk; their kids have all been sitting in the front row of this conference since they were little. They live a very intentional life and that to me is someone I want to learn from! 🙂

Go gettem' everyone, have a great week!
